Trash and Waste Removal

Townhouses and Apartments

UIS Residence Life has contracted trash and waste removal services to handle waste removal from the campus.  Each court of the townhouse and apartment complexes has an enclosed area where large waste receptacles (dumpsters) can be found.  Trash from student residencies should be removed weekly, or more frequently as needed, and placed in these large dumpsters.  It is highly discouraged to use the laundry rooms the location to take your trash.  These areas are not designed to take on large amounts of trash created by students on a daily basis.  Furthermore, large amounts of waste placed in the laundry room contribute to an unpleasant environment for everyone due to odors, spillage and general cleanliness. Trash is removed from the dumpsters at least three (3) times a week.  You are encouraged to physically place trash in the dumpsters and not thrown or tossed over the fences.  Missed dumpsters increase bag breakage, spillage and easy access for rodents and animas.  Large bulk items such as furniture cannot be placed in or left near the dumpsters for removal.  You are responsible for properly discarding these bulk items.  Leaving large bulk items require special arrangements for pick up from our waste hauler.  Thus, these special arrangements incur an additional charge.  Additional charges, or expenses, contribute to a higher cost of on campus living.  Responsible persons will be charged a fee for removal of large bulk items.

Residence Halls

Each Residence Hall has a designated area for trash and waste collection on each floor of the buildings.  Waste barrels are emptied daily from this area and taken to the outdoor waste receptacles (dumpsters) where our waste hauler will collect and remove.  Students living the Residence Halls are asked to place their trash/waste in the cans provided on a regular basis and not allow trash to collect inside their rooms for long periods of time.  Large bulk items such as furniture cannot be placed in or left near the waste receptacles for removal.  You are responsible for properly discarding these items on your own.  Leaving large bulk items require special arrangements for pick up from our waste removal provider.  Thus these special arrangements incur an additional charge.  Additional charges, or expenses, contribute to a higher cost of on campus living. Responsible persons will be charged a fee for removal of large bulk items.
