FERPA Training : Q1A

Correct

You may not give out the information because:

  • FERPA recognizes secondary education students as adults who are entitled to privacy.
  • Although the student’s directory information is not suppressed, grades are non-directory information and may not be released.

You may refer the parent to the Office of Records and Registration for further evaluation of the request. If the student is a legal dependent, the Office of Records and Registration may release the information after the parent has supplied appropriate documentation to the University.
