What is the buzz about winning a t-shirt from another college or university?
Well, it's true. The Be Fit Wellness Program is a program that allows Rec Members to win a t-shirt from other schools nationwide and at the same time helping you to live a healthier lifestyle. It can also help you be more aware of the choices you make on a daily basis.
What is the program?
The purpose of the Be Fit Program is to promote awareness of and participation in healthy activities.
How was it developed?
Throughout the year the Department of Recreational Sports asked colleges and universities from across the country to donate a t-shirt from their respective Recreational Sports programs. The response was tremendous! We have over 100 shirts!
How does it work?
Participants who sign up for the program will choose a school's shirt (available in the Recreational Sports Office). Then, the participant will exercise the actual mileage it would take to travel from UIS to that college or university. When the participant documents and submits the required mileage, the t-shirt is theirs to keep.
Who can participate?
Anyone who is a current Rec Member can participate. If you discontinue your membership then you will also be required to discontinue your Be Fit Trek.
How do I track the mileage?
Recreational Sports will provide a conversion chart and instructions about how to track the mileage online to help participants keep a record of weekly exercise/activities. Each participant will also receive a free pedometer to keep track of the mileage they complete on a daily basis. Mileage must be submitted every week. If you do not submit your time for a two week period, you will receive notice and have an opportunity to continue the program but will not be able to submit your mileage for those missing weeks, you will continue with the current week when you received the email notice. If you do not submit your mileage during that third week and do not reply to the email notice, your participation will be discontinued and the shirt you shirt you chose as your goal will become eligible for anyone.
How many shirts are available?
T-shirts are limited to one per person and are on a first-come-first-serve basis. In addition, once someone has signed up for a shirt, that shirt is no longer available to others.
How long does it take to complete the program?
That depends on how many miles you have to track. There is no time limit. Some will complete the program during one academic year while others may take longer.
When can I sign up?
Participants can sign up in the Recreational Sports Office during normal office hours (Monday through Friday 8:30am – 5pm) beginning August 23rd, 2010.
