What is free agency?
Free agency is a web service provided by the intramural program to aid individuals who aren’t currently a member of a team. This service provides those individuals an opportunity to join an organized team as a free agent.
What is a free agent?
A free agent is a current Rec Member who wishes to participate in an intramural sponsored team activity and is not currently a member of a team.
If I sign up as a free agent, will I be guaranteed a spot on a team?
Applying for free agency does not guarantee you a position on a team. The intramural staff does not place individuals on a specific team. However, if there are enough interested free agents for a particular event, the intramural staff may form a team of these unaffiliated players.
How does it work?
Individuals sign up as a free agent using our electronic Free Agent Application. Once the application is received by the intramural staff, the free agent’s contact information will then be posted on our Available Free Agents webpage. Participants/captains searching for additional players to complete his/her team roster are encouraged to recruit free agents from that list of available free agents. If a free agent is acquired by a team, the free agent must complete a Roster Addition Card as well as sign the appropriate Roster Card to be eligible to participate. Both cards can be found in the Recreational Sports Office.
What else do free agents need to know ?
Free agents are encouraged to attend the Captains’ Meeting scheduled for the sport he/she wants to play in. The meeting will provide an in-person opportunity for free agents to speak with participants/captains and possibly join a team.
Free agents need to submit one Free Agent Application for each intramural event they wish to play in (one application per division per league)
Remember- participants/captains may or may not choose additional members for his/her team from the available free agents list.
