Anthony Sisneros











Dr. Anthony Sisneros retired from teaching following the 2015-2016 academic year, and is now an emeritus professor with the department. He is the former chair of the Public Administration Department and former director of the Masters of Public Administration (MPA) Program at the University of Illinois at Springfield (UIS). He received his PhD in Political Science from Washington State University, an MA in Political Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder (MA thesis cited as “probably the most extensive account of the DiManna recall” in The Crusade for Justice: Chicano Militancy and the Government’s War on Dissent, 1999), and BA in Political Science and History from Adams State College.

Dr. Sisneros is author of The Emergence of Latino Americanos on the United States Political Stage: The Case of Illinois, 2007. Professor Sisneros served 12 years on the Editorial Board of Review of Public Personnel Administration, and 22 years as book reviewer for CHOICE: Current Reviews for Academic Libraries. ​He also served on the Editorial Board and as Case Study Editor for the Journal of Public Management & Social Policy for 10 years and 7 years, respectively. He has been published in Public Administration Review (PAR), American Review of Public Administration (ARPA), Review of Public Personnel Administration (ROPPA), Labor Law Journal (dissertation chapter published before dissertation defense), Harvard Journal of Hispanic Policy (HJHP) and Public Administration Times.

Professor Sisneros served as vice chair of the Sangamon State University Faculty Senate, senator-at-large, and as UIS chair of the Graduate Council, chair of University Promotions, chair of Tenure Review, and chair of Equal Opportunity. Dr. Sisneros was a member of the Executive Committee, Productivity Review and Strategic Planning Committee, Planning and Budget Committee, UIS Diversity Task Force, and Search Committees for UIS Chancellor and UIS Provost.

Dr. Sisneros maintained a 25-year membership in the American Association of Public  Administration (ASPA), including service as past president of the Central Illinois local chapter, and past member of the ASPA national board of directors. Dr. Sisneros has been a consultant for the U.S. Department of Education, Eisenhower Leadership Program, served on the Selection Academy Board, U.S. Service Academies, and the U.S. Federal Executive Institute (FEI) as resource participant for special diversity programs. Professor Sisneros has delivered federal/state employment and training services via the nonprofit sector in professional/managerial capacities. Dr. Sisneros has testified before the Illinois House State Government Committee, Elections and State Government Committee, and the Illinois Senate State Government Committee, Executive Committee, Executive Appointments Committee, and Equal Opportunity Committee.

Dr. Sisneros served on the Board of Trustees at St. Augustine College and on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Association of Hispanic State Employees (IAHSE), where he also has the distinction of being a past president. He has been a Congressional National and Illinois State Vote Advisor for Project Vote Smart. Dr. Sisneros served on the Illinois Advisory Committee for the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.

Dr. Sisneros was born in the San Luis Valley, Southern Colorado.
