Gary W. Reinbold is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Administration. He received his Ph.D. in Public Policy from Harvard University in 2010 and also holds a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and an M.A. in Early Childhood Education from Concordia University Chicago. While at Harvard, he was twice awarded the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Student Teaching. Prior to his doctoral studies, he practiced law with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the international law firm of Mayer Brown LLP.
Gary’s research interests involve social policy analysis. In particular, he seeks to integrate empirical and legal methods to analyze laws and policies affecting child well-being, both in the United States and internationally. His dissertation examined the relationship between economic inequality and children’s health in Bangladesh and Kenya. He is currently analyzing the shape of federal and state antipoverty programs in Illinois.
When not teaching or conducting research, Gary actively follows political and policy debates at the international, federal, and state levels. He has a longstanding interest in classic literature, classic movies and television, and acoustic music. And above all, he enjoys exploring the local museums, parks, and playgrounds with his wife Jeana, daughter Zoe, and dog April.
