Boren Scholarships
Boren Scholarships offer U.S. undergraduate students the opportunity for linguistic and cultural immersion and with the resources and encouragement they need to acquire skills and experiences in areas of the world critical to the future security of our nation. Three programs are offered: summer (8 week), one semester and one academic year. Funding ranges from $8,000 (summer) to $20,000 (academic year).
Note: The National Service Education Program Service Requirement stipulates that an award recipient work in the Federal Government in a position with national security responsibilities for one year or the duration of assistance provided under the program, whichever is longer. Boren Fellows must begin filling the service requirements within two years of graduation.

Fulbright UK Summer Institutes
(offered by the UNITED STATES – UNITED KINGDOM EDUCATIONAL COMMISSION
aka ‘Fulbright Commission’)
Overview: The Fulbright Commission promotes educational and cultural exchange between the United States and the United Kingdom in order to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen relations between the two countries by making awards for summer study in the United Kingdom. Awards generally cover major costs of travel, tuition, meals and lodging.
Eligibility and Restrictions: Restricted to U.S. citizens. The Fulbright Commission strives to operate a policy of equal opportunity and not discriminate against any person because of sex, race, disability, sexual orientation, religion or age. Criteria used in making awards: academic excellence, a focused application, a range of extracurricular and community activities, demonstrated ambassadorial skills, a desire to further the Fulbright Program and a plan to give back to the US upon returning. Participation in a Fulbright Special Program does not preclude participants from applying for a Fulbright Award later in their academic career.
Awards: The Fulbright Special Programmes will cover round-trip airfare from the US to the UK (to be reimbursed by the Commission), tuition and fees at the host university, accommodation and meals and a small daily allowance.
Programs: Study programs and U.K. host institutions are announced each spring. Contact UIS Office of Prestigious Scholarships for more information.
