Taste of UIS looks at history of Lincoln Home and neighborhood

September 27, 2005

SPRINGFIELD – The University of Illinois Alumni Association at UIS will present “Here I Have Lived: The History of the Lincoln Home and Neighborhood,” the second program in this fall’s Taste of UIS: Distinguished Faculty/Alumni Lunchtime Lecture Series, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, at Maldaner’s Upstairs, 222 South Sixth St., Springfield. Reservations are required and should be made no later than Wednesday, October 12.

Featured speaker will be Tim Townsend, UIS alumnus and a historian at the Lincoln Home historic site. Townsend will discuss the Lincoln Home and neighborhood from the time of the family’s residence through the National Park Service’s current restoration efforts, including a look at various proposals in the 140-year-effort to honor Lincoln’s memory by preserving his home.

The series concludes on Thursday, November 17, with a presentation by U of I President B. Joseph White on the topic “Integrity in Leadership.”

Each program includes a hot lunch. Cost is $20 per person, $15 for Alumni Association members and their guests. Make reservations by calling Alumni Relations at (217) 206-7395, registering on-line at www.uiaa.org/spfld/, or e-mailing alumni@uis.edu.
