UIS alumni to host Come Back to Campus Open HouseSeptember 16, 2005SPRINGFIELD – Alumni and friends of the University of Illinois at Springfield are invited to a Come Back to Campus Open House to be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, September 30. The event is free and open to the public. Sponsor of the event is the UIS Alumni SAGE Society, a new group of the U of I Alumni Association for alumni age 50 and over. SAGE stands for Service, Activity, Growth, and Enrichment.
The program will feature a variety of 45-minute presentations and demonstrations beginning at 3, 4, and 5 p.m. At 3 and 4 p.m. UIS horticulturist Joan Buckles will lead a tour of campus landscaping and gardens. Tours will depart from Sangamon Auditorium lobby. A PowerPoint presentation will replace the tours in case of inclement weather. At 3 and 5 p.m. in Brookens Library UIS librarian Jane Treadwell and archivist Tom Wood will give a presentation/demonstration on UIS archives and online library resources. At 4 and 5 p.m. in University Hall, UIS’ newest classroom building, Farokh Eslahi, director of Educational Technology, will lead a presentation/demonstration of 21st century classroom technology. In addition, participants will be able to visit undergraduate dorm Lincoln Residence Hall and other campus sites of interest throughout the afternoon. Starting at 2:30 p.m., SAGE members will be in the Auditorium lobby to provide maps as well as information about the Society. During the afternoon there will also be a drawing for two pairs of tickets to a performance in Sangamon Auditorium.
