UIS, AFSCME Local 805 reach agreement on salary increaseSeptember 16, 2004SPRINGFIELD - The University of Illinois at Springfield and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Council 31, Local 805, have reached agreement on a salary increase of 3.1% for all bargaining unit members. The agreement is part of a wage reopener in the second year of a three-year contract. The increase was effective on August 29, 2004. “AFSCME Council 31 and its members believe that the parties reached a fair wage agreement that gives consideration to the realities of the economy and the current budget restrictions,” said Victor Osuna, staff representative for Council 31. “We look forward to continuing a good working relationship with the university, where the parties work constructively to settle any differences.” The agreement covers seven grounds workers, two maintenance repair workers, an assistant grounds gardener, and a grounds equipment mechanic, all of whom work in the Department of Physical Planning and Operations. “We extend our appreciation to both the union and the university’s bargaining team for reaching this agreement,” said Wes Weisenburn, Assistant Vice President for Human Resources. The university is bargaining with four other unions this fall: The Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 55; IATSE, Local 138 (stagehands); operating engineers, Local 399; and University Professionals of Illinois, Local 4100. |
