Hanson Professional Services Inc. Faculty Scholar established at UIS

September 9, 2004

SPRINGFIELD - Hanson Professional Services Inc. is teaming with the University of Illinois at Springfield to broaden opportunities for faculty and students in programs in the university’s College of Business and Management through the Hanson Professional Services Faculty Scholar gift.

Business and Management Dean Ronald McNeil explained that the $60,000 gift will allow the college to better support a professor who will be engaged in teaching, research, and outreach in management information systems, marketing, or organizational management.

“Both Chancellor Ringeisen and I are pleased with Hanson’s support of the university and college,” said McNeil. “It allows us to recruit a faculty member who has an established reputation and who can be an asset to the college, university, and region.”

Hanson, a wide-ranging services company in Springfield for a half-century, has a longstanding relationship with UIS.  “Hanson leadership has been an integral part in shaping UIS, starting with the early days of both organizations when (company founder) Walter Hanson served on the SSU Foundation board,” said Dr. Vicki Megginson, associate vice chancellor for development at UIS.

Megginson added that, over the years, the firm has provided student placements and internships and has hired UIS graduates from a variety of academic backgrounds.

Since its founding as W.E. Hanson in 1954, the organization has grown and evolved until today it offers scientific, engineering, architecture, program management and land acquisition services. Hanson is ranked among the top 200 design in the U.S. and is included in the top 20 telecommunications firms in the nation.

“We see this faculty scholar program as a benefit to both the community and the university,” explained Sergio “Satch” Pecori, president and CEO of Hanson. “With the corporate headquarters of a national firm here in Springfield, we are very involved with education and want to support the enhancement of UIS.”

The UIS College of Business and Management houses academic programs in Accountancy, Business Administration, Economics, Management, and Management Information Systems.

Hanson Professional Services Inc., headquartered in Springfield, has 15 offices throughout the nation and provides consulting services worldwide.

The University of Illinois at Springfield, one of three U of I campuses, is a small, public liberal arts university that offers 40 degree programs – 20 bachelor’s, 19 master’s, and the Doctorate of Public Administration. UIS has a special mission in public affairs and service and is known for extraordinary internships, a wireless campus, extensive online offerings, and a commitment to teaching.
