UIS professor wins old-time fiddle championshipSeptember 8, 2004SPRINGFIELD - Sharon Graf, assistant professor of ethnomusicology at the University of Illinois at Springfield, won the Illinois State Old-Time Fiddle Championship held Sunday, September 5, at Rockhome Gardens near Arcola. About 30 contestants competed in three divisions: Senior (for contestants over 70), Junior (for contestants 18 and younger), and Open (championship). In 2003, Graf took third prize in the statewide competition after losing a tie-breaker for second place to David Smith of Aurora. This year, Graf and Smith tied again, this time for first place, and Graf won.
