  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AAUW annual Fall Coffee will be at UIS

September 1, 2004

SPRINGFIELD -  The Springfield branch of the American Association of University Women will hold its annual Fall Coffee from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, September 11, in the Public Affairs Center restaurant, located on the lower level of the PAC on the UIS campus. The program is free and open to current and prospective members.

The program will feature a presentation by UIS students Ashley Harvey and Candice Clouse and Women’s Center Director Lynn Otterson, who will speak about the 2003 National Conference for College Women Student Leaders, which was sponsored by AAUW and which they attended. They will also discuss how the experience led them to organize a local contingent of women to participate in last spring’s March for Women’s Lives in Washington, D.C.

Information will be available on various programs offered by the Springfield branch, as well as displays and opportunities to sign up for interest groups and projects, many of which raise money to support local and national scholarships for women (including four at UIS). A silent auction will also be held to benefit the Legal Advocacy Fund that provides assistance to women seeking judicial redress for sex discrimination in higher education.

AAUW membership is open to those who hold a bachelor’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution. Undergraduate students enrolled in regionally accredited two- or four-year institutions are eligible for a student affiliate membership.
