UIS implements alcohol education program in campus housing

September 23 , 2003

SPRINGFIELD - Alcohol 101 Plus, a computerized alcohol education program developed by the Century Council, is being implemented at the University of Illinois at Springfield and is one of the programs recommended by the Illinois Higher Education Center for Alcohol, Other Drug, and Violence Prevention in its publication Employing Evidence-Based Practices: A Guide for Prevention Practitioners in Higher Education. The publication has been distributed to colleges and universities throughout the state.

Alcohol 101 Plus, currently being implemented in campus housing at UIS, is designed to help college students make safe and responsible choices about alcohol. The program is delivered via CD and features a "virtual bar," interactive video scenes, and other alcohol-related information.

This and the other projects featured in the IHEC publication are funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Human Services.

For more information, contact Judy Shipp, director of the UIS Counseling Center, at 206-7122.
