  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UIS Alumni Association to sponsor lunchtime lecture series this fall

September 5, 2003

SPRINGFIELD – The University of Illinois Alumni Association at UIS will sponsor A Taste of UIS: Distinguished Faculty/Alumni Lunchtime Lectures, a series of four monthly presentations to be held at Maldaner's Upstairs, 222 South Sixth St., Springfield. The programs are open to the public; however, reservations are required.

On Wednesday, September 24, the topic will be “Searching for Route 66.” This presentation is for anyone who has ever traveled Route 66, or wanted to. UIS alumnus Tom Teague, executive director of the Illinois Historical Society and an advocate for the preservation of Route 66, will discuss the infamous road.

“Demystifying the Art of Acting” will be the topic on Tuesday, October 21. Get inside the process of acting and learn what it takes to master the craft. Enjoy the wit and wisdom of Eric Thibodeaux-Thompson, assistant professor of communication and director of UIS theater productions.

On Wednesday, November 19, join alumnus Chris Britt, award-winning editorial cartoonist at The State Journal-Register, for “Toons at Noon.” You'll be laughing and thinking too hard to fall asleep after lunch with this presentation.

Great plans are in place for the “UIS Abraham Lincoln Presidential Center for Governmental Studies.” Hear what’s in store from Milan Dluhy, executive director of the Center, on Wednesday, December 10.

Each of these programs includes a hot buffet lunch that begins at 11:30 a.m. Presentations begin at 12:10 p.m. and, along with the accompanying question-and-answer session, are over by 12:50 p.m. (Those who have the time are welcome to linger for more discussion.)

Cost for each program is $18 per person, $13 for Alumni Association members and their guests. Reservations should be made no later than one week prior to each lecture. To make reservations for any of these programs, call Alumni Relations at (217) 206-7395, e-mail alumni@uis.edu, or register online at www.uiaa.org/spfld.
