UIS hosts annual International Festival

SPRINGFIELD – The University of Illinois at Springfield will host its 24th Annual International Festival, “The Rhythm of Nations,” from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, October 13.  The festival features performances from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Studio Theatre, located in the lower level of UIS’ Public Affairs Center, and international food and cultural exhibits in the PAC cafeteria concourse from 6 to 8 p.m.

Countries represented in this year’s festival include India, Brazil, Bolivia, and China.  Dishes to be offered include sushi, veggie hand rolls, vegetable pancakes, sukiyaki, tandoori grill, pryaniki (Russian gingerbread), boeuf stroganoff, and bortsch (beetroot soup).

Tickets for the event include performances, exhibits, and food.  Cost is $10 for the general public, $5 for UIS students and children (under age 6 admitted free). Tickets are available in advance at the UIS bursar’s office, lower level of the Public Affairs Center, phone 206-6738.  A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.

In conjunction with the international festival, Bayanihan, the national dance company of the Philippines, will perform at 8 p.m. in UIS’ Sangamon Auditorium.  Tickets for this performance -- $25, $22, $20, and $13, with a special $5 discount for children ages 6 to 15 – are available at the auditorium Ticket Office, call 206-6160 or (800) 207-6960 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
