Weird Al Yankovic brings his “Touring with Scissors” to Sangamon Auditorium

SPRINGFIELD – Weird Al Yankovic, supreme satirist of rock ‘n’ roll and pop culture, will perform at 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, at the University of Illinois at Springfield’s Sangamon Auditorium.

Weird Al’s show is a multi-media extravaganza of video, costumes, stage sets, and dancers. Sporting a new look — he ditched his signature eyeglasses (after laser surgery) and shaved his moustache — he’s taken his show from California to New Jersey and back again. Featured material spans two decades of hits that earned two Grammy awards and a total of eight nominations.

Despite ups and downs Weird Al has proven, with more than 20 gold and platinum albums in the U.S. and Canada, that his career has longevity. Hits such as “Eat It,” “I Lost on Jeopardy,” “Smells Like Nirvana,” and “Like a Surgeon” have sent him to the top of the charts repeatedly. His feature film, UHF, has appeared in numerous television specials and has gained a loyal following.

A dinner will be served at 6 p.m. in the UIS cafeteria, PAC level 1. Tickets are $16 (adults), 13.50 (Terrific Friends & up), and 11 (children 12 & under).

A Pre-show Discussion & Questions session (PDQ), sponsored by Barnes & Noble, will be held at 7:15 p.m. in the Studio Theatre, PAC level 1.

Tickets are $35 (Gold Circle AA-H), 30, 27, 25, and 18.
