Taste of UIS examines challenges and opportunities for "Boomers"October 27, 2006SPRINGFIELD – The third program in this fall's "Taste of UIS Lunchtime Lecture Series" – discussions with distinguished UIS faculty and alumni sponsored by the U of I Alumni Association at UIS – will present a look at choices available to members of the "baby boom" generation and the possible impact their decisions could have on society. Set for Wednesday, November 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Maldaner's Upstairs, 222 South Sixth St., Springfield, the presentation is open to the public; however, reservations are required.
In "Today's Decisions, Tomorrow's Consequences: Challenges and Opportunities for Aging Boomers and Their Communities," UIS Assistant Professor of Human Services-Gerontology Carolyn Peck will look at what the consequences might be for individuals, families, and communities as the first baby boomers turn 60. Will the influx of older adults create a demographic tsunami, or will there be an abundance of wisdom and lifelong learning that will benefit society? Peck will discuss the consequences for boomers who will thrive or struggle as a result of adult lifestyle decisions that they are making now. The program includes a hot buffet lunch. Cost is $20 per person, $15 for Alumni Association members and their guests. Make reservations no later than Friday, November 10, by calling Alumni Relations at (217) 206-7395, registering on-line at www.uiaa.org/spfld/, or e-mailing alumni@uis.edu. |
