UIS music groups to present Fall Showcase ConcertOctober 17, 2006SPRINGFIELD – Music groups at the University of Illinois at Springfield will present their annual Fall Showcase concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 27, in the Office of Electronic Media TV Studio, located behind the Studio Theatre on the lower level of the Public Affairs Center on the UIS campus. A reception in front of the Studio Theatre will immediately follow the concert. Both the concert and reception are open to the public. The concert will feature performances by the UIS Chorus, UIS Chamber Orchestra, and UIS Band. The chamber orchestra will break into small ensembles to perform a diverse selection for piano trio, woodwind quartet, string quintet, and the experimental sounds of a celluba quartet. The orchestra will also perform Welsh folk tune "Ar Lan y Mor" and will accompany the chorus for the "Sanctus" from Mozart's Requiem, K. 626.
Other selections to be performed by the chorus include "Imagine" by John Lennon, "Suliram: an Indonesian Folk Melody," "Pretty Saro," and "An African Musical Geography." The band, kept busy this semester performing at a number of campus events, will perform "His Honor" by Henry Fillmore as well as a variety of pieces for pep band. Admission is $5 and tickets are available at the Sangamon Auditorium Ticket Office, PAC level two, phone 206-6160. All proceeds will benefit the UIS Music Student Merit Awards fund. UIS Music ensembles welcome participation by students, faculty, staff, and community members.
