UIS Visual Arts program to host presentation on ceramics

SPRINGFIELD – Dan Bare, a ceramics instructor, technician, and studio manager at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan, will deliver a Visiting Artist Lecture from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 19, in room 151 of the Visual and Performing Arts Building at the University of Illinois at Springfield. The program is free and open to the public.

Bare recently returned to the U.S. after a year-long residency at the Pottery Workshop in Shanghai, China. His work addresses the intersection of hand-made and machine-made components through the use of multiples and glaze phenomenology.

Bare earned his BFA in crafts/ceramics and art education from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. He then spent two years studying vessel-making and soda, salt, and wood firing with Dan Anderson at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. He earned the MFA in 2003 from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, Alfred, New York. 

His presentation at UIS is sponsored by the Visual Arts Program and the Art Students League.
