  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UIS to host screenings of "An Inconvenient Truth"

October 10, 2006

SPRINGFIELD – The Biology and Environmental Studies programs at the University of Illinois at Springfield will host two screenings of the film "An Inconvenient Truth" – at noon and 7 p.m. – Monday, October 23, in Brookens Auditorium, located on the lower level of Brookens Library on the UIS campus. Both screenings are free and open to the public.

The evening showing will be followed by a panel discussion with UIS faculty members Amy McEuen and Hua Chen from the Biology program, and Tih-Fen Ting and Pamela Doughman from Environmental Studies. Bob Croteau from the Energy Services office at City Water, Light, and Power will also be on hand to offer energy-saving tips.

Called "passionate and inspirational," "An Inconvenient Truth" offers a look at former Vice President Al Gore's fervent crusade to halt global warming by exposing the myths and misconceptions that surround it. With "wit, smarts, and hope," the film brings home Gore's arguments that we can no longer afford to view global warming as a political issue – rather, it is the biggest moral challenge currently facing global civilization – and that there is still time to make a difference.

UIS sponsors of the film are the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the College of Public Affairs and Administration, and the Office of Student Affairs.

For more information, contact UIS Assistant Professor of Biology James Bonacum at 206-6035.
