In Anton, a self-centered television actress, a jaded New Yorker, and an enthusiastic ingénue gather in San Antonio, Texas, for an ill-fated production of Anton Chekhov's The Three Sisters.  Along the way, playwright Martin manages to skewer producers, directors, actors, sponsors, critics, and multiculturalism, while at the same time satirizing and celebrating theatre as a modern art form.  The play was a hit at the 24th Humana Festival of New American Plays in 2000 and won the 2001 American Theatre Critics/Steinberg New Play Award.

Cast members are: Alicia Artner* (Casey), Meghan Askew (Actress #2), Elizabeth Bapst* (Joby), Heather Bean* (Lisabette), Joey Cruse* (Ben), Myaa Fallon* (T-Anne/ Andwyneth), Colleen Kabbes* (Actress #1), Gretchen Ross* (Holly), John Spencer* (Joe Bob), and Nick Teeter* (Don Blount).   (* indicates current UIS student)

The director is Missy Thibodeaux-Thompson, assistant professor of theatre at UIS.

Tickets – $10 general admission, $6 UIS faculty/staff, or $4 for UIS students with current i-card – are available now at the UIS Ticket Office, located on level two of the Public Affairs Center. Purchase tickets in person, by phone at 217/206-6160 or 800/207-6960 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets may also be purchased at the ticket office beginning 90 minutes prior to curtain time.

Open auditions for the next two productions – As Bees in Honey Drown by Douglas Carter Beane and Two Rooms by Lee Blessing – will be November 12 and 13 at 7 p.m. in the Studio Theatre.
