UIS to offer second session of “Spanish for Cultural Literacy”

SPRINGFIELD – The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Springfield will offer the second session of “Spanish for Cultural Literacy,” an online personal and professional development course, from October 17 through December 17. Participants can choose to take this course either for academic credit (2 credit hours) or for professional development (non-credit).

Holly McCracken, director of CLAS Online Programs, explained, “This course is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are preparing for business travel, planning vacations or study abroad, or who work with Spanish-speaking colleagues.

“Because the course is taught online, it can be taken from any location and participants can study in their own time and at their own pace,” she said. 

The eight-week session will introduce essential vocabulary and provide opportunities to practice Spanish in a wide variety of practical situations. Using an interactive online format, the instructor will introduce a range of cultural issues for consideration when communicating with Spanish-speaking people.
