“Our Pre-Law Center provides a source of information for UIS students, alumni, and community college students considering law school or a law-related career,” Ringeisen said.

The PLC, in its third year and housed in room 363 of the Public Affairs Center, is staffed by director Dennis Rendleman, J.D., with support from a graduate assistant.

“We look forward to having the center in its new home so we can expand student participation in our activities and provide more coordinated, hands-on support,” Rendleman said.

The grand opening also featured the PLC Fall Forum, which examined the question “Why Law School?” Representatives from John Marshall Law School and Northern Illinois University College of Law joined Rendleman in discussing legal career options, law schools, and the law school application process.

For the campus community, the PLC offers educational events, speakers, and activities with an emphasis on Illinois legal figures and understanding legal issues of importance. The center also offers “guided educational excursions” to acquaint students with law schools, courts, the practice of law, and the legal history of Illinois.
