  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UIS Fall Music Brownbag Concert to feature three ensembles

October 12, 2004

SPRINGFIELD - The Fall Music Brownbag at the University of Illinois at Springfield –   featuring performances by the UIS Band, UIS Chamber Ensemble, and UIS Chorus – will be held at noon Wednesday, October 20, in the Visual Arts Gallery, located in room 201 of the Health and Sciences Building on the UIS campus. The program is free and open to the public.

Each group is made up of UIS students, faculty, staff and community members and has been rehearsing since the fall semester began in August.

Under the direction of Brian Pryor (also a member of local jazz band Razin’ Kane), the UIS Band will perform selections from its pep and concert repertory.

The chamber ensemble, consisting of 10 string musicians and an oboist, will perform a selection from the Renaissance as well as a contemporary classical piece that has become instantly recognizable through its use in a television commercial.

The chorus, directed by Sharon Graf, assistant professor of Sociology/Anthropology, will sing a variety of folk song arrangements, including a Jamaican song featuring chorus members on both vocals and Caribbean percussion.

For more information, contact Graf by phone at 206-6570 or by e-mail at graf.sharon@uis.edu.
