SPRINGFIELD – WUIS (91.9 Springfield) and WIPA (89.3 Pittsfield) will host a concert showcasing some of central Illinois’ best young classical musicians at 8 p.m. Friday, November 8, at the First Presbyterian Church, 321 S. Seventh St. in Springfield. The public is invited to attend this free performance, segments of which will be broadcast later on WUIS-WIPA. A reception will follow the concert.
More than 20 musicians, ranging in age from 9 to 17, will perform works by composers such as Schumann, Bach, and Telemann on piano, flute, violin, viola, and oboe. All performers were selected from entrants in the station’s Young Musicians’ Concert Contest held earlier this fall. The contest was intended to foster young musical talent in the area and to encourage young musicians to perform classical music.
The contest and performance were funded by The Meredith Foundation. Refreshments for the reception were provided by Bunn Capitol. Naxos Records provided compact discs for each participant.
