What:                  Groundbreaking ceremony for classroom/office building

 

When:                 2 p.m. Monday, October 28, 2002

 

Where:                Just south of Public Affairs Center near Parking Lot G

                             at University of Illinois at Springfield

 

Program:           Governor George Ryan, U of I Board of Trustees Chair Gerald Shea, President James Stukel and UIS Chancellor Richard Ringeisen will give brief remarks.  Invitees include Sen. Vince Demuzio, Sen. Larry Bomke, Rep. Gwenn Klingler, Rep. Raymond Poe, and Mayor Karen Hasara

 

Background:          The new classroom/office building is being constructed at a cost of $30 million and will be the largest structure (116,130 square feet) at UIS.  It will house technology-enhanced and smart classrooms, computer labs, lecture halls, and academic and student affairs offices. Construction is expected to begin in early December and be done by summer 2004.
