SPRINGFIELD -- On Monday, October 7, the University of
Illinois at Springfield student affiliate of the American Association of
University Women, along with UIS’ Diversity Task Force and Office of Minority
Student Affairs, will take part in First Monday, a national campus-based day of
education that focuses on social justice.
This year’s theme, Civil Liberties in a New America,
is designed to raise awareness about the importance of protecting civil
liberties in times when national security is a concern.
The presentation will begin at noon in conference
rooms C and D, located on the lower level of the Public Affairs Center on the
UIS campus. A short documentary titled
“Of Rights and Wrongs: The Threat to America’s Freedoms” will be shown,
followed by a panel discussion. The event is free and open to the public.
First Monday is an annual program that takes place on
the first Monday in October to coincide with the opening day of the U.S.
Supreme Court. For more information,
