SPRINGFIELD – The public affairs colloquium Anarchy and Social Change offered this fall at the University of Illinois at Springfield will sponsor screenings of two recently made anti-war videos from New York City on Thursday, November 8.
9.11 is a half-hour video that documents the emergence in New York of a transformation from mourning into a mobilization for peace and justice and addresses the racial backlash against Arab Americans. It will be shown twice, at noon and again at 6:30 p.m., both times in conference room F in the Public Affairs Center on the UIS campus. (This film is from New York Independent Media Center, Paper Tiger TV, and Big Noise Tactical.) A 30-minute discussion period will follow each run.
The evening screening and discussion of 9.11 will be followed by Turning Tragedy Into War, another half-hour video that critiques the corporate media=s coverage of the war while providing a background of U.S. involvement in the Middle East combined with interviews and scenes from the streets of New York during the week following September 11. (This film is from Paper Tiger TV.) A discussion sessio will also follow this video.
All videos will be shown on a large screen. The programs are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Ron Sakolsky at (217) 206-7887.
