UIS Indian students present Dasara/Diwali Night celebration

SPRINGFIELD – The Indian Students Organization at the University of Illinois at Springfield will present “Dasara/Diwali Night” from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, October 27, in the Studio Theatre, located in the lower level of the Public Affairs Center on the UIS campus.

This traditional Hindu festival of light commemorates the victory of good over evil.  The celebration at UIS will feature cultural entertainment -- including classical Indian songs and dance -- beginning at 6 p.m. and a dinner served at 8:30 p.m. The menu of Indian dishes such as butter chicken, rogan gosh (lamb curry), veg biryani (vegetable fried rice), and gulab jamun (dessert) will be catered by the Taj Mahal restaurant in Bloomington.

Support for the event is provided by UIS’ Inter-Club Council Board and Diversity Task Force. Tickets are $10 ($5 for UIS students) and include the cost of dinner. Children under 6 are admitted free. Tickets are available at the UIS bursar’s office, lower level of the Public Affairs Center, or by calling (217) 553-9599, (217) 816-9521, or (901) 830-8132.
