UIS Music to host annual Winter Open HouseNovember 20, 2006SPRINGFIELD – The Music Program at the University of Illinois at Springfield will host its annual Winter Open House from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, December 8, in the Visual and Performing Arts Building on the east side of the UIS campus. The UIS Chorus, Band, Chamber Orchestra, and Chamber Ensembles will perform and the Chorus and Band will combine for a special holiday singalong. The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Highlights of the program will include the UIS Band's performance of "Sleigh Ride" by Leroy Anderson and "'Twas in the Moon of Wintertime." The band will also accompany the UIS Choir in a medley titled "Holiday Favorites," composed by Paul Lavender.
In addition to this joint performance with the band, the chorus will give an encore presentation of "An African Musical Geography" as well as a number of winter favorites such as "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and "Sleigh Bells." The Chamber Orchestra will present Arcangelo Corelli’s Concerto Grosso No. 8 in G minor (the Christmas Concerto) and other pieces for chamber orchestra. For more information, contact R.
