  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UIS among sites for national debut of controversial film

November 9, 2005

SPRINGFIELD – The University of Illinois at Springfield will present two debut screenings of the controversial film Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price. The first is at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, in Public Affairs Center room 3 C, located on the third floor of the PAC on the UIS campus. A discussion about the effect Wal-Mart is having on Springfield and the entire nation will immediately follow the film. The screening is sponsored by the Institute for Legal and Policy Studies at UIS.

UIS group United Students against Sweat Shops will sponsor a second screening on campus at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, November 17, in PAC room 3F.

Both screenings are free and open to the public; however space is limited and advance reservations are required.

The UIS event is part of a grassroots effort that will see over 3,000 screenings of the film nationwide from November 13 through 19.

Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price is the newest film by director/producer Robert Greenwald. The film takes viewers on a deeply personal journey into the lives of everyday people, in this country and abroad, who are struggling to fight a corporate giant. From a small business owner in Missouri to a preacher in California, from workers in Florida to a poet in Mexico -- current and former employees, managers, and executives speak about the inner workings of the corporation.

Reservations to attend a screening can be made online. To reserve a spot for the November 15 screening, go to http://action.bravenewfilms.org/event/wm_screening.jsp?event_KEY=8435&track=moveon?
