UIS Visual Arts Gallery seeks donations for annual silent auction

November 9, 2004

SPRINGFIELD - Fine art and crafts in every medium will be available in time for holiday gift-giving as the Visual Arts Gallery at the University of Illinois at Springfield will hold its annual Silent Auction fundraiser Monday, November 29, through Thursday, December 2. Artworks will be on display for silent bids from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day in the gallery, and a program will conclude the event on Thursday evening beginning with a reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by the live auction of a few select items at 6:30 p.m. The reception and auction are free and open to the public.

Donations of artwork in any medium -- your own work or pieces from your collection -- will be accepted through November 24.  Monetary donations will also be accepted, as will donations of art-related services such as photography sessions or caricatures. Donations are tax-deductible and can be dropped off in the gallery, located in room 201 of the Health and Sciences Building on the UIS campus, between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.  Pieces should be marked with the known or estimated value and the donor’s name, address, and phone number. Inclusion of donated items is subject to approval by UIS Visual Arts program faculty.

The auction is the gallery’s only fundraiser and all proceeds are used to ensure high-quality programs that promote a greater understanding and support for the visual arts at UIS as well as in Springfield and surrounding communities.  Recent exhibits have featured unique works by artists of national stature such as Robert Natkin, Thom Whalen, and Joel Feldman.

Contact gallery manager Emily Laverty by phone at (217) 206-6506 or by e-mail at visarts-ga@uis.edu for more information or to make special arrangements for donation pick-up or drop-off.
