UIS ceremony to honor founding faculty membersMay 31, 2006SPRINGFIELD – A reception honoring the two surviving founding faculty members of the College of Education and Human Services at the University of Illinois at Springfield will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, in the Sangamon Auditorium Lobby, located in the Public Affairs Center on the UIS campus. The program is free and open to the public, however reservations are requested. The honorees are Robert Crowley and James Pancrazio, both professors emeritus of Human Development Counseling. Oil portraits of Crowley and Pancrazio, to be installed in the College, will be unveiled during the event.
Along with the College of Education and Human Services, hosts of the program are the CEHS Alumni Council and the UIS Office of Development. In the 1971-1972 academic year, 99 faculty members, including Crowley and Pancrazio, joined then-Sangamon State University. Over the years, both men became recognized for their innovative approaches to teaching, their unique interpersonal styles, and their passion for promoting and facilitating growth and change within and across the university community. Mary Caroline Mitchell, UIS associate director of alumni relations, noted, "The installation of these portraits is a way to celebrate to both the College's history and the founding faculty who contributed to its development with honor and distinction." Those who are unable to attend the reception are invited to send greetings. To make a reservation or to receive information on how to mail greetings, contact the UI Alumni Association, no later than June 12, at 206-7395 or by e-mail at alumni@uis.edu.
