WUIS continues live music performances in area schools

SPRINGFIELD – Mark Mathewson and Jennifer Ramm, hosts of a bluegrass music program on WUIS (91.9 Springfield)/WIPA (89.3 Pittsfield), will introduce grade school children to bluegrass music at 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, at Springfield’s Hazel Dell School. Mathewson and Ramm will join local fiddler Steve Staley in a live performance and explanation of this type of music.

Mathewson and Ramm’s program “Bluegrass Breakdown” is broadcast Sunday evenings on WUIS/WIPA.

This presentation follows two performances on the lute and viola da gamba earlier this year by Karl Scroggin, host of “Classics” — one at Butler School and one at Hazel Dell. The appearances are part of an outreach effort by WUIS/WIPA to encourage appreciation of music and the national “Music in the Schools” program.

For more information about this outreach program or for a current schedule of bluegrass, classical, jazz, and other music formats available on public radio in central Illinois, contact WUIS/WIPA at (217) 206-6516.
