UIS to present workshop on “Death, Grief, and Loss”

SPRINGFIELD – A workshop on “Death, Grief, and Loss” will be presented from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 10, in conference room H of the Public Affairs Center at the University of Illinois at Springfield.

The program, which is free and open to the public, will be led by Dr. Carolyn A. Peck, assistant professor of Human Services-Gerontology at UIS.

During difficult times, we are often at a loss on what to say or how to comfort those we love. Peck will illustrate ways to be supportive and will provide information and examples of the realities of death, grief, and loss in relationships with friends, colleagues, and family members.  She will also discuss the physical, psychological, and sociological components of these experiences as they relate to both the dying individual and the caregivers. 

Peck previously served as director of bereavement counseling with Hospice of Oklahoma County and counseled medical rescue personnel following the Oklahoma City bombing.  She has also taught courses on death and dying to military officers and family counselors who serve on U.S. military installations.
