Gamble Named AMC Coach of the Year

March 10, 2006

SPRINGFIELD – Four years ago, Kevin Gamble was named the first coach of the University of Illinois at Springfield.  He had less than five months to organize a schedule, recruit assistant coaches and players, set up a play book, and research his opponents.

The work put in that first year began to pay some dividends this year and Coach Gamble was recognized by his fellow coaches in the American Midwest Conference by naming him the AMC Coach of the Year.

“This is quite an honor,” said Gamble, “to be recognized by your peers in the business.  I owe it to my staff and players.  They are the ones who are making the system work and being successful.”

The Prairie Stars travel to Kansas City, Missouri, next week to compete in the 69th Annual Buffalo-Funds NAIA National Men’s Basketball Division I Championship.  The first date of competition for UIS is on Thursday, March 16, beginning at 8 p.m. against the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist University.

The University of Illinois at Springfield, one of three U of I campuses, is a small, public liberal arts university that offers 42 degree programs – 21 bachelor’s, 20 master’s, and the Doctorate of Public Administration. UIS has a special mission in public affairs and service and is known for extraordinary internships, a wireless campus, extensive online offerings, and a commitment to teaching.
