Four Prairie Stars Named to All-Conference Teams

SPRINGFIELD – Four members of the UIS men’s basketball team have been recognized for their efforts over the past season by being named to American Midwest All-Conference teams.
Senior Curtis Collins (Chicago, IL) and freshman Kelvin Johnson (Chicago, IL) were named First Team All-Conference. Michael Griffin (Litchfield, IL) and Antonio Puckett (Chicago, IL) were named Honorable Mention All-Conference.
Collins leads the Prairie Stars in field goal shooting percentage with 60.6% overall and averaged 16.8 points per game. He leads the team in rebounds, averaging 7.3 per game, and tallied 15 blocked shots. Among other student-athletes in the conference, Collins is first in field goal percentage, third in scoring, and fourth in total rebounds. Across the Division I NAIA student-athletes, he is ranked 10th in field goal percentage and 11th in offensive rebounds per game (3.13).
As a freshman, Johnson leads UIS in assists with 5.46 per game, is first in steals with 66 on the season (2.13 per game), and is second in scoring, averaging 13.71 points per game. In the conference, he is first in steals with 66, averaging 2.13 per game, first in assists, and is 11th in field goal percentage (43.3%). At the Division I level nationally, Johnson is ranked 12th in steals and 22nd in assists.
Senior Michael Griffin is second for the Prairie Stars with 191 total rebounds, averaging 5.7 per game, fourth in scoring, averaging 9.88 points per game. He averaged 50% from both the field and from behind the three-point line. He is fourth in the conference in field goal percentage (56.1%), seventh in total rebounds (83), third in offensive rebounds (41), 13th in defensive rebounds (42), and sixth in the conference with five (5) double-double games. Griffin is ranked 19th in offensive rebounds per game among players in Division I of the NAIA (averaging 3.03 per game).
Senior Antonio Puckett is third overall for the Prairie Stars, averaging 11.69 points per game, shooting 37% from the field and 33% from behind the arc. He has tallied 62 assists on the season, averaging 1.94 per game. He is eighth in the conference in three-point shooting percentage and 14th in assists with 25 (averaging 2.08 per game).
The Prairie Stars will find out who their first round opponent in the NAIA National Tournament will be on Wednesday, March 8, with the release of the tournament brackets.
