“Taste of UIS” looks at eastside development

March 3, 2006

SPRINGFIELD – “Springfield’s Eastside Development” will be the topic of discussion at the second Taste of UIS program, beginning at noon Thursday, March 23, at Maldaner’s Upstairs, 222 South Sixth St., Springfield. Sponsored by the U of I Alumni Association at UIS, the program is open to the public; however, reservations are required.

The featured speaker will be Mike Pittman, UIS alumnus and president of the Springfield Black Chamber of Commerce. Pittman is a former member of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and has held various positions – including prison guard, state employee, and director of community relations under Mayor Karen Hasara – since coming to Springfield. Now a businessman and developer, he is also active in the community as a church deacon and board member of several local organizations. In this presentation, Pittman will share his unique perspective on the Springfield community and his commitment to making the city a better place to live for everyone.
