UIS professor chosen to serve on St. Augustine Board of Trustees

March 7, 2005

SPRINGFIELD -  University of Illinois at Springfield faculty member Anthony A. Sisneros has been selected to serve on the Board of Trustees for St. Augustine College in Chicago.

Anthony Sisneros

Dr. Sisneros, associate professor of Public Administration and former chair of the Public Administration Department at UIS, said he is honored to have been considered and selected. “I consider service on this board as the most significant challenge in my career,” he said.

St. Augustine College, established in 1980, is an independent, bilingual institution of higher education created under the auspices of the Episcopal Diocese to make the American system of higher education accessible to a diverse student population, with emphasis on Hispanics. The college’s mission is also to strengthen ethnic identity, reinforce cultural interaction, and build a bridge to fill cultural, educational, and socio-economic gaps.

The college, with three locations in Chicago, serves thousands of students, the majority of whom are Hispanic, low-income women who are raising children.

Sisneros will join the 10-member board for a three-year term that can be renewed for two additional three-year terms.

At UIS, he served as director of the Public Administration Program for nine years. He has also served as chair of the Tenure Review Committee, Campus Promotions Committee, Graduate Council, and Equal Opportunity Committee. He was a member of the Assessment Task Force, Campus Planning and Budget Committee, and Campus Senate and served on the search committees for both the chancellor and provost.

Dr. Sisneros is founder of the Organization of Latino American Students, has served on the Selection Academy Board for the U.S. Service Academics, and the U.S. Department of Education’s Leadership Review Panel.  He has also served on the national Board of Directors of the American Society for Public Administration and the Illinois Association of Hispanic State Employees.

His research has been published in Public Administration Review, Harvard Journal of Hispanic Policy, Review of Public Personnel Administration, Labor Law Journal, and CHOICE (Current Reviews for Academic Libraries).

He received his Ph.D. at Washington State University, M.A. at the University of Colorado, and B.A. at Adams State College.
