  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UIS Theater Program to present Noel Coward’s Hay Fever

March 22, 2004

SPRINGFIELD - Noel Coward’s comedy Hay Fever, the spring production of the Theater Program at the University of Illinois at Springfield, will be presented in six performances: Friday- Saturday, April 9-10, and Thursday-Sunday, April 15-18, in the Studio Theatre located in the lower level of the Public Affairs Center on the UIS campus. All performances will be at 8 p.m. except the final one (April 18), which will be a 2 p.m. matinee.

The cast is Erica Smith (Sorel Bliss), Chad Eversgerd (Simon Bliss), Mallory Houghton  (Clara), Georgia Dirksen (Judith Bliss), Paul Cary (David Bliss), Edward Barnett (Sandy Tyrell), Melissa Betty (Myra Arundel), Brian Trammell (Richard Greatham), and Anna Dow (Jackie Coryton). Director is Eric Thibodeaux-Thompson, assistant professor and director of theater at UIS.

First produced in 1925, Hay Fever has been described as “light, charming, and hilariously funny.” This English comedy of manners is set in the country home of the ultra-Bohemian Bliss family:  Mother, a retired actress who makes a crisis out of every scene; Father, a novelist; and their daughter and son, who are handsome but ill-mannered.  Their weekend guests -- a young man in love with mother, a diplomat, an intense young woman, and a flapper -- receive an unusual reception and each Bliss is soon paired off with someone else’s guest. Note: This play is not recommended for children younger than 10.

Tickets -- $10 general admission, $6 for UIS faculty/staff, or $4 for UIS students with current i-card -- can be purchased at the Bursar’s Office, also located on the lower level of the PAC, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday or over the phone with a major credit card by calling (217) 206-6738.  Tickets secured over the phone by credit card will not be mailed after April 6.  Tickets will also be available at the door (cash only), beginning one hour before curtain time.

For more information, contact Thibodeaux-Thompson by phone at 206-6613 or by e-mail at ethib1@uis.edu.
