Taste of UIS lunchtime lecture looks at 30 years of WUIS

March 11, 2004

SPRINGFIELD - The University of Illinois Alumni Association at UIS will present “WUIS: The Third Decade,”  the second program in this spring’s Taste of UIS: Distinguished Faculty/Alumni Lunchtime Lecture Series, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, at Maldaner’s Upstairs, 222 South Sixth St., Springfield. Reservations are required and should be made no later than Friday, March 19.

Brad Swanson, UIS distinguished alumnus and general manager of public radio WUIS 91.9 FM Springfield, will be the featured speaker.  Swanson has been with the station for 28 years, including its earlier days as WSSR and WSSU.  As the station enters its third decade, he will share reminiscences, hopes, and dreams for the future of public radio.

The third program in the series will be Wednesday, April 28, when former Springfield mayor Karen Hasara will speak on “Public Policy, Cow Chips, and Chicken Dinners: Reflections on 28 Years of Public Service.”
