UIS music groups to present semi-annual Brown Bag ConcertMarch 3, 2004SPRINGFIELD - Music groups at the University of Illinois at Springfield will present their semi-annual Brown Bag Concert from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, in the Visual Arts Gallery, located in room 201 in the Health and Sciences Building on the UIS campus. The concert is free and open to the public. “All one needs to bring is lunch and an appetite for good music,” said Sharon Graf, assistant professor of ethnomusicology and director of music programs at UIS. The concert will feature performances by the UIS Band, Chamber Ensemble, and Chorus in a wide range of musical genres including pep, classical, and folk. Graf also noted that the Brown Bag Concert is a chance for the various groups to showcase, and for the audience to preview, some of the pieces that will be presented at the Spring Concert in April. Opportunities for musicians at UIS to share their talents have expanded since the program’s beginning in 2001. The Pep Band continues to play at select Prairie Stars basketball games. The Chamber Ensemble performed at the Alumni Recognition Dinner last fall, and the Chorus performed at the campus Talent Expo in February. For more information about the concert or musical programs at UIS, contact Graf at 206-6570. |
