Sangamon Auditorium taking nominations for volunteer of the year
SPRINGFIELD – The University of Illinois at Springfield’s Sangamon Auditorium is seeking nominations for the annual I. Lawrence Camp Award – Volunteer of the Year. Candidates for volunteer of the year may be nominated by UIS students, staff, or faculty; fellow volunteers; or the public.
Volunteers provide services to the auditorium and its patrons as ushers and floor managers, office assistants, Sangamon Auditorium Volunteer Association (SAVA) committee members, tour guides, advisory personnel, and promotions assistants. The purpose of the award is to recognize the dedication and commitment of the individual volunteers for their many diverse contributions to the development of UIS and Sangamon Auditorium programs, and to increase public awareness of the auditorium, the campus, and the volunteer program.
The award was established in 1987 to recognize a single volunteer or volunteer couple who generously and unselfishly give of their time and talents to further the development of Sangamon Auditorium. It was eventually renamed to honor Larry Camp, a SAVA member who had been recognized and honored many times by organizations throughout the community, including the auditorium, because of his hard work and dedication as a volunteer. Camp retired from the SAVA usher corps in 1996, but his friendly manner of service will be remembered each time a SAVA member is honored with the award that bears his name.
The nominating forms are available in the lobby of the auditorium in the Public Affairs Center or by calling the auditorium’s administrative office at (217) 206-6150. Deadline for nominations is Monday, April 30. The name of the winning volunteer will be announced during the annual SAVA picnic scheduled for June 10.
