UIS’ Illinois Legislative Studies Center launches new journal on state politics

SPRINGFIELD The Illinois Legislative Studies Center (ILSC) at the University of Illinois at Springfield announces the launch of a new academic journal, State Politics and Policy Quarterly.  Volume 1, Issue 1 of SPPQ was shipped to subscribers on March 8.

SPPQ, edited by ILSC director Christopher Z. Mooney, is the official journal of the State Politics and Policy section of the American Political Science Association.

This journal puts UIS at the epicenter of the academic study of state politics, nationwide, said Mooney. “Not only is this a major event for the field of political science, it is a huge shot in the arm for the international reputation of UIS in public affairs and state politics. This is a wonderful compliment to UIS’ current reputation for service to, and study of, Illinois politics.

SPPQ publishes high-quality academic studies that develop general hypotheses of political behavior and policymaking, and test them using the unique methodological advantages of the states. Articles are published on all aspects of political behavior and policy in the states.  The first issue of SPPQ includes articles by scholars from Michigan State University, the University of Arizona, the University of Kansas, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Nebraska, among other universities.

To celebrate the launch of the SPPQ, an academic conference on “The State of the States” was held in College Station, Texas, at the George Bush Presidential Library at Texas A&M University in early March.  Over 100 political scholars met there to present research and discuss the future of state politics and policy in the United States.
