UIS Computer Science department receives national certificationJune 28, 2006
SPRINGFIELD – Courseware developed by the Computer Science Department at the University of Illinois at Springfield has received certification for compliance with two national standards for information assurance education and training. A certificate stating that the department has met the national standards for Information Systems Security Professionals, NSTISSI No. 4011, and System Administrators, CNSSI No. 4013E was presented to UIS on June 5 by Dr. Linton Wells II, principal deputy assistant secretary of defense, networks, and information integration at The Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education. Ted Mims, professor and department chair, and Sviatoslav Braynov, assistant professor in the department, received the certificate on behalf of UIS.
The Information Assurance Courseware Evaluation (IACE) Program is a systematic assessment of the degree to which courseware from commercial, government, and academic sources maps to national standards. Certified institutions are considered as meeting minimum national training and education standards for several professions, including information assurance, designated approving authority, system administrators in information systems security, information systems security officers, and system certifiers. IACE was established under the authority of the National Security Telecommunications and Information Systems Security Committee, predecessor of today's Committee on National Security Systems, an inter-governmental organization that sets policy for national security systems of the federal government. For details about mapping standards, go to www.nsa.gov/ia/academia/iace.cfm?MenuID=10.1.1.1. For more information, contact Mims at 206-7326. |
