UIS inducts 32 students into international honor society

June 28, 2006

SPRINGFIELD – Thirty-two students from the College of Business and Management at the University of Illinois at Springfield were inducted into Sigma Beta Delta – an international honor society in business, management, and administration – in a ceremony and reception held on campus in May.

UIS Chancellor Richard Ringeisen and Provost Harry Berman offered congratulatory remarks. Certificates and honor cords were presented by Leo Bin, assistant professor of Business Administration; Michael Small, associate professor of Business Administration; and Xiaoqing Li, assistant professor of Management Information Systems.  Bin, Small, and Li serve as president, vice president, and secretary/treasurer of UIS’ Sigma Beta Delta Chapter.

Inductees included juniors Jennifer Ann Ballweg, Keith T. Baum, Colin Terence Beveridge, Kathy Jo D’Alfonso, and Doraine Lenise Alexander DeWitte.

Senior inductees were Kristin Nicole Blake, Jared R. Jones, Kasey Ellen Reagan, Vicki S. Stone, Melissa Irene Wade, and Rebecca Jo Zentko.

Graduate students inducted were Jenjen Bai, Dana B. Bangert, James Arlin Boles, Richard W. Bridal II, Padma Chinnaswamy, Douglas Jason Cluney, Ashley A. Coker, Joan Ann Eastburn, Marina Edwards, Eugenio Fernandez, David L. Laird, Joseph James Liesen, Gordon Bruce MacMillan, Justin B. Marshall, Roger S. Meeker, Rebecca Ellen Modine, Gene Norman St. Louis, Roshani Shrestha, Joseph Ray Smith, Colleen Anne Theisen, and Shane Patrick Willoughby.

An honorary Sigma Beta Delta membership was also bestowed in June to Evelyn Brandt Thomas of Brandt Consolidated Inc. during an awards ceremony for small businesses hosted by the UIS Center for Entrepreneurship.

Sigma Beta Delta was founded in 1994 to encourage and recognize scholarship and achievement among students of business, management, and administration, and to encourage and promote personal and professional improvement and service.  For business students who attend a college or university with a Sigma Beta Delta chapter, membership is the highest national recognition they can receive.
