What: “President Lincoln Visits the
Library.” Abraham Lincoln (portrayed by actor Fritz Klein) will meet with
children to share his love of reading and to encourage elementary students to
take part in a readers’ theater and story writing contest presented as part of
the summer reading program sponsored by Springfield’s Lincoln Library and the
Abraham Lincoln and Leadership Summer Institute, part of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential
Center for Governmental Studies at the University of Illinois at Springfield.
When: 3 to 4 p.m. Monday, June 23
Where: Carnegie Room, Lincoln Library
Background: The
public library’s summer reading program for children is titled “Lights, Camera,
READ!” High school students enrolled in UIS’ Lincoln and Leadership Summer
Institute are participating as a service learning project. A readers’ theater
performance by students in grades 3-6 and a story writing contest for students
in grades 1-6 are planned for July.

Chancellor Richard Ringeisen will also be in attendance on Monday to help
children sign up for these two programs.
