UIS, UPI Local 4100 reach agreement on salary increaseJanuary 28, 2005SPRINGFIELD - The University of Illinois at Springfield and the University Professionals of Illinois Local 4100 have reached agreement on a one-year contract that includes a salary increase of 3.1% for all bargaining unit members. The agreement is retroactive to August 29, 2004. UPI Chapter President Normajean Niebur thanked her bargaining team for its hard work. “I also want to extend special thanks to all my members for their support during these difficult times,” she said. “Without the mediator, we would still be at the table. It would have been better to have a three-year contract, but, again this year, that did not happen. Hope springs eternal that we can come to that conclusion during the next contract negotiation,” she commented. Local 4100 represents a total of three bargaining units that include 159 clerical, service, and technical workers at UIS. “In these difficult economic times, both the union and the university worked together to achieve a reasonable agreement,” said Wes Weisenburn, Assistant Vice President for Human Resources. He also noted that the assistance of a mediator was critical in helping to achieve the agreement.
