Discussion on same-sex families to be presented at UIS

SPRINGFIELD - “Leave No Family Behind,” a community-based discussion on issues involved in marriage equality, same-sex marriage, and the everyday obstacles faced by gay male and lesbian families, will be presented from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, January 19, in Brookens Auditorium, located on the lower level of Brookens Library on campus at the University of Illinois at Springfield. The presentation is free and open to the public.

The program will feature a panel of local residents and experts, including: Professor Ramona Faith Oswald, Department of Human and Community Development, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; Rev. Martin Woulfe, Abraham Lincoln Unitarian Universalist Congregation; John Knight, director, Lesbian and Gay Rights Project, American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois; Heather Sawyer, attorney, Lambda Legal Defense; and same-sex couples from Springfield and the surrounding area.

A question-and-answer session will follow the panel discussion.
